J

ames Robbins is the co-owner and Program Director of Dallas Whole Life Counseling. James holds two graduate degrees, a Master's degree in English literature from the University of Texas at Austin, and a master's degree in professional counseling from Amberton University in Dallas. James is a published author, national lecturer and professional counselor. His first book of non-fiction, Build A Better Buddha was published in 2003 by Nicolas-Hays, Inc. In 2004, Tony Robbins, world-renowned peak performance coach, personally selected this book as motivational reading for his elite, international group of Platinum Partnership clients. Better Buddha examines a cross-section of East and West, integrating aspects of Western psychology with Eastern philosophy. Although James regularly speaks and writes about various philosophical and spiritual belief systems from around the world, his therapy practice is not formally affiliated with any particular beliefs other than those of traditional Western psychotherapy.

J

ames has appeared in radio, print and television media in Texas, California and Washington. Within these popular formats, he offers his innovative, plain-language views on a variety of topics, such as stress-reduction, relationships and sexuality, overcoming depression, anger and other conflicted moods, and strategies for better realizing career and health-related goals. James has offered workshops, locally and nationally, addressing these same issues in both intimate and lecture-hall settings. Throughout his public work, James has had the opportunity to interact with a number of individuals from a wide range of ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds, and continues to refine his warm, personalized approach of "meeting the client where the client is."

n addition to offering therapy and counseling, James has seven years of experience as a life coach and meditation teacher. When appropriate, James incorporates these aspects of his work into treatment, utilizing meditation techniques to alleviate depression and anxiety, as well as helping clients maximize vocational, health and other personal goals by increasing focus, concentration and clarity. James specializes in couples counseling, sex therapy and helping individuals work through relationship issues. He also offers general individual treatment for adults and adolescents. Like Heather Robbins, James believes that conflicted family relationships are often at the heart of many day-to-day struggles.

Praise for Robbins' book, Build A Better Buddha

"Rich and powerful set of practical, meditative exercises..." “This book creates a new benchmark in East-West Psychology. . . . Robbins embeds a rich and powerful set of practical, meditative exercises that he has adapted for Western usage within an exceedingly comprehensive presentation of Buddhist and Western psychological traditions.” — Peter Fenner, author of The Edge of Certainty.

"Amazingly compelling..." “Describing the path to his own self-discovery and spiritual understanding and drawing upon an encyclopedic knowledge of the eternal wisdom expressed by ancient and modern prophets and philosophers, James Robbins takes the reader on a journey of enlightenment that is amazingly compelling. He writes in a friendly style with engaging anecdotes and offers the stressed 21st-century reader a practical guide for the recovery of inner peace and a resolution of that primeval perplexity that is experienced by human beings as the enigma of the self. Robbins seems to me to speak with his soul.” —Zulfikar Ghose, author of The Triple Mirror of the Self.
